Putting the Savage(Worlds) in our Heroes: Xander Harris

What is this:  Savage worlds claims to be a universal system. Usable for everything.  With this series I plan to look to see if this is the case, and look at some of my favorite characters. Today I’m going to look at Xander Harris, from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is based on Xander after he’s been around Buffy a few seasons and has picked up some tricks, so that he’s not a complete puss in a fight.

Remember: You can use this in your savage worlds game. I’m not going to hurt you if you change this, in fact I encourage it.  Follow along with your Savage Worlds Explorers Edition.

Who is Xander:  Xander is that geeky guy that hangs out with the weird girl. Hell he was probably not that different from you in high school .  Xander is average, hes not able to fight, and he’s not the brains, but he is excellent comedy relief which has got to count as something.

Main Stats:

 Agility: d6
Smarts:
d4
Spirit:
d10
Strength:
d6
Vigor:
d6

Explanation: I kept Xander’s stats average, because that’s what he is. That is except Spirit because I felt that like Buffy Xander’s strongest asset is his spirit. He believes in his friends to the last, and is truly selfless, just look at the episode, The Zeppo.

Skills(I’m only writing down trained skills):

Fighting: d8
intimidation:
d4
investigation:
d6
Knowledge
(occult):
d6
Notice:
d6
Persuasion:
d6
Shooting:
d6

Explanation: This is all pretty standard stuff. Again, he doesn’t excel at much but that is intentional.  All his social skills are about the same as Buffy’s which makes them equals on that front. Interesting when you look at how big of an XP gap they have.

Derived Stats:

Pace: 6
Parry:
6
Toughness:
5
Charisma:
2

Explanation:  See below(and above!), they are derived after all…

Hindrances

Loyal(minor): Buffy won’t abandon her friends, its the same for Xander.
Outsider(minor):
Xander is an outsider in high school.

Edges:

No Mercy: To give Xander more of a kick, when he hits, and it pairs nicely with Great Luck.
Charismatic

Great Luck:
Again to give Xander more of a fighting chance, without actually making him more powerful.

Gear:

Stake: Str +d4 – except kills vampires on a blow to the heart.
Crossbow:As per the rules.

If you are going by the Pilot, a skateboard…

The end… Xander was not hard to build at all, and he would work nicely as a character, again it will be more interesting to see how Willow fairs, who we will be looking at tomorrow.

Rank: Seasoned(20 xp)-So Lets just say Buffy’s party is not incredibly balanced. But savage worlds is pretty good at having low level characters and high level characters together and having it still work.

Come back tomorrow when I take a look at Willow. If there is a character you would like to see tackled please let me know by commenting below(its painless!).
